WelcomeWelcome to D. Roy Kennedy Public School! We look forward to having your child, or children, join us for the 2020-2021 school year.  Whether you are a returning family, or a new one joining us, we look forward to being part of your child's educational journey.

A few important pieces of information that may be helpful to you as you look ahead to the 2020-2021 school year:

First of day of school: Due to the Covid-19 school closures, the school district is still waiting for instructions from the Ministry of Education regarding school re-opening.  The information about school re-opening will be shared with our wider and school communities when it becomes available.  Below, you will find what a typical first day process has been in the past.  This process may or may not be the same depending on what our processes are for re-opening schools.

All first year or new to school Kindergarten students will have have an intake meeting either the first or second day of school.  If you did not receive this information, please call the school on August 24.  Starting dates for Kindergarten students will be determined based on school re-opening processes.

All students from Grades 1 to 6 are to gather on the pavement area between doors B and C on the East side of the school between 9:00 and 9:15. There, students will be greeted and connected with their homeroom teachers.  At 9:15, the school bell will ring and classes will proceed into the school to their classrooms.

All students from Grades 7-8 are to gather in the main gymnasium inside the school between 9:00 and 9:15.  There, students will be greeted and connected with their homeroom teachers.  At 9:15, the school bell will ring and classes will proceed into the school to their classrooms.

School Supplies: A list of recommended basic school supplies that all students should have access to for the year is available here:  School Supplies.

Staying Connected: School information is sent out most commonly via email from the office or your child's homeroom teacher.  It is essential that we have up to date contact information (email, phone). You will receive a printout of the current contact information we have for you at the beginning of the school year.  Please make sure that any changes to any information on these sheets is recorded and sent back to the DRK Office.  Our school web site (https://droykennedyps.ocdsb.ca/) has a school calendar you can subscribe too, as well as out daily announcements to make sure you are never more than a click away from the info you need. Field trip forms are also posted to the site for your convenience and online payments for student fees and activities can also be made. An account in https://ocdsb.schoolcashonline.com will be needed (you may have done this already at previous schools)

Attendance: Daily attendance (and punctuality) are essential to your child's success in school. If your son or daughter is going to be absent or late for an appointment or other family situation, please contact the DRK Office at 613-722-0647 to speak to Mrs. Clarke or Mrs. Hennigar.

Life-Threatening Medical Conditions: Should your son/daughter have a serious or life threatening medical condition that requires planning for, please ensure that relevant information is shared with the school. Should any medical interventions (e.g. medication, inhalers, epi-pens, etc) be necessary parts of their plan of care, please ensure to plan ahead for the required documentation (including doctor's signature on authorization forms) and medication provided to the office in September.

Please note: The school office will be closed from June 29th - August 23rd.   The opening date for the office is unknown at this time due to Covid-19.  If you have an urgent situation that requires attention during the summer, please feel free to contact the OCDSB directly (https://www.ocdsb.ca/contact_us)
